Two Communities Against Water Tax meetings, 7.30pm Thursday, 22nd JanuaryBishop Street Community Centre and Lisnagelvin Leisure CentreMonday 19th March 2007 Two Communities Against the Water Tax meetings to organise the non-payment campaign are being held this Thursday evening, 22nd March. The meetings, in Bishop Street Community Centre and Lisnagelvin Leisure Centre, both start at 7.30pm. Communities Against the Water Tax spokesperson, Goretti Horgan, says that these meetings have been called at the request of local people. "We are contacted daily by people who want to organise the non-payment campaign in their own area. Despite the negotiations underway for a financial package for the new Assembly, there is a determination to keep building the non-payment until the privatisation of the water service is reversed and water charges scrapped entirely. Ms. Horgan, who is currently chair of the Northern Ireland Anti Poverty Network, which helped to set up Communities Against the Water Tax, says "these meetings provide information to counteract the propaganda of the Water Company". She cites the reduced tariff as an example of the "campaign of misinformation" and claims that the reduced bills will disappear once privatisation is secured. "All are welcome at these organising meetings", she says. "There is a role for everyone in the campaign Ð even if all you have time for is talking to your neighbours and passing on information to them. If we all stick together, support each other and refuse to pay this double tax, then we can stop water privatisation altogether."
