Raytheon inflicts a Bloody Sunday every day of the week... but Derry still hosts MoD facility

Monday 22nd January 2007

We march every year in protest against the murder of 14 of our fellow citizens by the British State, and to demand truth and justice at last.

Meanwhile, Raytheon, suppliers of the means of murder to the British State and its allies, runs a weapons facility at the edge of our town.

The lie which lasted for years that Raytheon was not involved in arms-related manufacture in Derry was exposed last year. The Ministry of Defence confirmed that the plant at Springtown is working on weapons systems for use by British, US and other western armies in their wars around the world.

It was the same Ministry of Defence which lied for years about Bloody Sunday and hid or destroyed evidence to prevent the truth coming out.

Last August, members of the Derry Anti War Coalition occupied the Raytheon plant and---at least temporarily---decommissioned its arms-manufacturing capacity. For this, nine members of the DAWC have been charged under "terrorism" laws, while a 10th has been warned that she may also be charged.

While the DAWC members were inside the Raytheon plant, the company's missiles and bombs continued to fall on Lebanon and Gaza. Raytheon "bunker-busters" were rushed to Israel to replenish stocks. Yet, afterwards, it was the Raytheon 9 who were accused by elements of the local establishment of acting violently!

Certain of our political leaders shrug their shoulders at civilians being blown to bits in Beirut---but become upset when computers are broken to bits on the Branch Road.

Some who say they want the truth told about Bloody Sunday don't want to know when it comes to the truth about Raytheon.

The Derry Anti War Coalition thanks all those---from various political parties and none---who have shown solidarity with the Raytheon 9. We ask for a continuation of support as the 9 (possibly 10) face trial this year. We ask for support for the activities of the DAWC leading up to the trial.

In the aftermath of Bloody Sunday, Derry looked out to the world for solidarity, just as the people of the Middle East look to us for solidarity today. One way of showing that solidarity is to take a stand against the murder weapons being made in Derry.

ONE WORLD---ONE STRUGGLE!

SUPPORT THE RAYTHEON 9!

MERCHANTS OF DEATH OUT OF DERRY NOW!
