Announcements of S. E. A. MeetingsPublic Meeting on future of Cedar and Glen Court flatsPress Release 27.1.2004 A public meeting to consider the future of the Cedar Court and Glen Court flats will be held in the Glenview Community Centre next Tuesday night, February 3rd, at 8.00pm. The meeting will being hosted by the Glenview Community Association following an approach by members of the Socialist Environmental Alliance. In a statement yesterday, the SEA welcomed support offered by other parties for the demolition of the flats and the rehousing of residents. Said the SEA: "We are urging all local representatives to attend the meeting---irrespective of party affiliation. We have also contacted the Housing Executive and asked them to send representatives to hear first-hand what the residents and the people of the area have to say. "Our door to door petition last month calling for demolition attracted huge support. We have no doubt that this is the option preferred by the people most affected by the situation. We sincerely welcome the backing of a number of local councillors, some of whom, it should be acknowledged, have been speaking out about the situation in the flats for some time. "To describe the conditions some tenants are living in as sickening is to put it mildly. It's not good enough for the Executive to say that, structurally, the complex is sound. Nor is it relevant for the Executive to keep repeating that the flats are not ancient. What matters are the conditions in which people have to live day by day---and night by night. And the conditions are unacceptable. "Some people who have been placed in these flats are in fact in need of care. Some are both doing damage to themselves and making life for others a complete misery. "Depending on what transpires at the meeting, the SEA will be suggesting a definite course of action to local people and asking for endorsement."
