SEA allege police brutality - Court picket at 10.30 Monday

Monday 2nd May 2005

The Socialist Environmental Alliance will be picketing the court at Bishop Street, today (Monday 2nd May) at 10.30a.m in relation to the case of a Waterside man charged in relation to incidents in the Violet Street area on Saturday night/Sunday morning.

The SEA has had access to a videotape of part of the incident and we say this makes clear that the PSNI was spoiling for a fight on the night and that a number of young people there were assaulted by PSNI officers who broke their way into a (Protestant)  home and terrorised the inhabitants.

We are calling for the PSNI officers involved to be suspended immediately and all charges against the young people dropped.

Following consultations with solicitors, we hope to be able to show the video footage of the police brutality later this morning.
