S. E. A. StatementsMcCann supporters take over Cave HillMonday 7th June 2004 Commuters into Belfast coming from the North of the city were surprised this morning by the sight of "Vote McCann 1" on the side of Cave Hill. The innovative sign was erected by SEA supporters in the North of the city who, frustrated by the expense of the usual advertising, decided to take matters into their own hands. A quick investigation by McCann's campaign team established that the 16 feet high letters are constructed from environmentally friendly materials and the sign is completely temporary. One of those who erected the sign, who preferred to remain anonymous, says "it does seem as if some people think that this is America where the more you spend on an election, the more votes you will get. We think that energy, enthusiasm and old-fashioned class politics can do the trick and this is just one way of reminding voters that - although the SEA cannot afford billboards and the like - Eamonn McCann deserves their number one vote. After all, none of the other candidates have his track record of over thirty years of standing up for workers' rights and for the marginalised in our society."
