S. E. A. StatementsSEA wants strike action against education cutsORGANISE NOW TO STOP THE CUTSThursday 24th March 2005 The Socialist Environmental Alliance (SEA) said last night that walkouts by the education board members would not be enough to disrupt the planned cuts and that the SEA was already contacting teachers and school workers to challenge the decision directly. "We are calling on teachers, school workers, pupils and parents to organise protests and strikes against these cuts." said Oisín Kehoe, SEA council candidate. "There should be an outright revolt by those on the front line in our schools against such cuts in vital services. This is the only way to stop the cuts as the direct rule minister has already shown that he is unphased by board room walkouts." Mr Kehoe continued, "Educators are under enough pressure already and our children deserve better. From a government that claimed it was committed to educating children out of poverty this is a real slap in the face. However, I'm sure Tony Blair will be delighted to have a further £20m to spend on the unjust war in Iraq. What we want is books not bombs."
