S. E. A. StatementsBaghdad, Falluja, Madrid, London: Stop the Massacres Get the Troops out of Iraq!Derry Anti War Coalition Rally Saturday 16th July 3pm Guildhall SquareWednesday 13th July 2005 The Derry Anti War Coalition has condemned the bomb attacks in London as "a deplorable and senseless action that will further no cause". The local anti-war campaigners also expressed their solidarity with the victims of the atrocity. Spokesperson, Roderick Cobley, said "the death and serious injury of so many innocent people in London is truly shocking. We believe, however, that the attacks must be seen in the context of the policies of war and imperialism pursued by the US and British governments in Iraq and the Middle East. "As George Galloway MP said, Londoners have paid the price for these policies, despite not being in any way to blame for them, and in many cases having actively opposed them and joined the huge marches for peace that preceded the invasion of Iraq." Mr. Cobley says "while we would prefer not to have to say this at a time of tragedy and mourning, it is necessary because New Labour politicians are already talking in terms that make it clear that they intend to use these acts of mass murder to justify attacks on our civil liberties in the name of "the war against terror" a 'war' that has made the world a much less safe place than it used to be, as was seen in London last week. The local anti-war coalition sees the atrocity in London as "the almost inevitable result of UK involvement in the criminal war and occupation of Iraq. Britain has become a target because it is the main military and political supporter of the US led war in Iraq a war that has claimed over 100,000 lives and which is daily visiting equally terrible atrocities on the innocent citizens of Iraq. "Every day for the last two years innocent Iraqi's have been murdered in equally barbaric actions as a result of the US/UK's terrorist war in Iraq. Their terrorism in Iraq has come back to haunt them with tragic results for innocent British people. "The British government has supported the policies of the US without question. When the US planned to attack Falluja last autumn, British troops were moved North in order to replace US forces that were being moved to Falluja". Roderick Cobley says this is why the Derry Anti War Coalition has organised a rally for this coming Saturday 16th July at 3pm in Guildhall Square. "We want to give Derry people a chance to show their solidarity with those killed in the London bombs while at the same time showing solidarity with Iraqis killed on a daily basis by the illegal occupation by the US/UK forces. "The rally will call on the Blair government to withdraw its troops from Iraq immediately, if they do not wish to be responsible for the deaths of more innocent people at home, as well as in the Middle East."
