Information Commissioner rules that Derry City Council should publish its deal with Ryanair

Monday 27th February 2006

We are delighted by the ruling of the Information Commissioner that Derry City Council should publish its deal with Ryanair.

For more than two years now, we have been asking the council to release this information to the people of Derry. We are sorry that it's taken the intervention of Commissioner Richard Thomas in London to move the situation forward.

We now urge the council to publish the information without further ado. The people have a right to know. Spending more public money on an appeal would be further waste. We appeal to the three parties on the council which have backed the Ryanair dea---the SDLP, Sinn Fein and the DUP---to join with us now in supporting publication of the facts so that the people can make up their own minds.

Let's end the secrecy now!

It's about time the people's right to know took precedence over Ryanair and Michael O'Leary's desire to keep us in the dark.
