SEA calls on the Derry public to give their full backing to the Perfecseal workers

We urge people not to be confused by management spin carried in the local media. This stoppage has been caused by attempts to force workers onto to 24/7 shifts---and destroy union organisation in the process.

Round-the-clock working ruins health and family life. Workers are entitled to proper compensation for such a drastic change in circumstances. But Perfecseal refuses to make a serious offer.

One of the management's conditions for a return to work is that those involved in the stoppage accept a final wrtten warning---and that management be able to vet union representatives in future.

Workers would go back under far worse conditions, with their jobs extremely vulnerable and with union organisation compromised.

If Perfecseal gets away with this outrage, it will set a new low standard for employment in Derry.

We call again for the millions in public money which this company expects to fund its move to Campsie to be withheld until such times as the dispute is resolved to the satisfaction of the workers concerned.

We call on all local trade unionists to support the Perfecseal workers and on public representatives to speak out against public money being handed to this com pany while iot treats Derry workers in this disgraceful way.
