S. E. A. StatementsBloody Sunday play - Dublin pictureWednesday 14th February 2007
L-R: Esther Wheelock (Terence Wheelock's mother); Robert Wheelock, Marie Keegan (who lost two daughters in the Stardust fire); Larry Wheelock, Jean Hegarty (sister of Kevin McElhinney, 17, who was murdered on Bloody Sunday), Antoinette Keegan, Eamonn McCann. Members of Dublin families seeking inquries into the death of family-members were among the audience at the opening night of the Bloody Sunday play in Liberty Hall on Monday. The attendance at the performance of "Heroes With their Hands in the Air" included representatives of the Stardust Families, relatives of the 48 young people who perished in the Stardust Club in north Dublin on St. Valentine's night in 1981. Also present was the family of Terence Wheelock, a young man who died from injuries after being detained at Store Street Garda Station in 2005, and relatives of those who died in the Dublin and Monaghan bombs in 1974. "Heroes With the Hands in the Air" was adapted and directed by Fintan Brady from a book produced last year for the Bloody Sunday Trust by BST chairman, Eamonn McCann. Said Mr. McCann after the performance: "I think it was highly appropriate to make the connection with families in Dublin who have yet to have the full truth acknowledged of how their loved ones lost their lives. The issues of collusion and suspected police malpractice arise in these cases, too."
