S. E. A. StatementsDerry water charges protest at StormontSunday March 25th. 2007 Leaders of the Irish Congress of Trades Unions will speak to demonstrators from the steps of the parliament building as the new Assembly meets. "The Stormont event will help build support for the non-payment rallies next Saturday in Derry, Belfast and Strabane, "said trades council vice-chairman, Eamonn McCann. "The rallies, organised by the Coalition Against Water Taxes, are fully supported by the trade union movement in each area. "The message we will be bringing to Stormont is that whether or not there is an Executive, there won't be water charges. Non-payment forced Peter Hain to offer a year's postponment. "The water chargers and privatisers are now expecting the local parties to use the year's grace to lure people into paying. But if we all stick together and refuse to pay twice for water, then neither Direct Rulers nor an Executive can force water charges through. "The simple message we will be bringing to Stormont from Derry is---Don't pay water charges! We appeal to all who are committed to non-payment to join the Derry rally at one o'clock next Saturday at Waterloo Place, and the Strabane rally at 3.30 in Castle Place."
